As a Coop Intern, I have  been exposed to the research and lab workplace where I do file entry, data collection and processing for my research for 4 abstracts using the Accuro database. Since the first day, my Supervisor has been compelled by my work ethic and academic application - tying lecture material from UofT to his research!

Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, I took the opportunity to begin researching the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and its effects on pregnancy since January. Given its global presence and effects to STEM, research on vulnerable populations including pregnant women, children and elderly is needed more than ever. Hence, in order to achieve global application of the virus, I aimed to fill in this gap by presenting my work to 30 Anova staff, embryologists and nurses including Dr. Munaf and the Nurse Manager whilst addressing important questions on the virus' effects on the workplace. With prior knowledge of coronaviruses from Introduction to Virology (BIOC20), I collected my knowledge from lectures and literature to discuss the novel strain's etiology, incidences and potential interventions (which can be seen on LinkedIn). My supervisor was very pleased with my research; giving me the opportunity to write about the virus in his blog! This opportunity allowed me to show off my leadership skills at a time of great uncertainty through my strong oral communication skills and advocacy for global, maternal-fetal, and personalized medicine.

To summarize in a follicular cell (the cells that surround the egg), this work term has fastened a strong interest in Embryology and using Biotechnology (integrated in Assisted Reproductive Technology) in my Specialist Program.
